Construction Cost: $92 million
The Presence Center for Advanced Care began as a concept to attract physicians and present a new face to the neighborhood and turned into a broader initiative to improve community health across a larger section of Chicago. By relocating key outpatient services from the hospital into a new, efficient and patient focused environment, Presence Health provided easy access to outpatient services, expanded the network of providers, and improved the overall community health.
The planning for the project began before the design team and client could gauge the full impact of the Affordable Care Act. Nonetheless, a few guiding principles were established early on including the building had to create an efficient environment for staff to deliver care; patients had to come first; and costs had to be contained. For the project to succeed, the building had to be convenient to patients and attractive to physicians.
In order to reduce stress and promote healing in patients, nature-inspired spaces were created using natural materials such as bamboo, wood, stone, soft interior lighting and plantings. The abundance of glass allows nature to be brought in throughout the interior with exterior city views. As a crucial component of hospital innovation, PCAC also made it a priority to become a completely digital hospital offering a wide-range of smart technologies.
As a one-stop destination center for health and wellness, PCAC defines a new sustainable model for delivering comfort and convenience in the heart of a vibrant Chicago neighborhood.
