Mercy Virtual Care Center serves as the command center for the system’s bold commitment to the future of healthcare. The building enables Mercy to advance its 185-year-old mission of transformative care while improving clinical outcomes and overall efficiency within the U.S. healthcare system.
There are no patients, beds or waiting rooms in this facility. Instead, the distinctive glass, stone and wood structure houses a team of doctors, nurses and medical innovators who work together to bring virtual medicine to more people and places than ever before. State-of-the-art technology and inspired design equip clinicians to deliver care “at the virtual bedside” of patients and to consult with other clinicians in real-time.
Designed for maximum flexibility and efficiency, the four-story, 125,000-square-foot building simultaneously operates as a high-tech medical center, an innovation think tank, a conference center, a sales showroom and a high-performance office building. All of these functions coexist within an open, high-performance work environment that embraces nature and inspires individuals to think and work in new ways.
The building integrates design features to help staff combat fatigue and guard against burnout. Its undulating glass curtain wall creates terraces and balconies on each floor where individuals can step outside to engage with nature. It also facilitates state-of-the-art innovation to pioneer the next generation of healthcare processes, products and technologies. Healthy natural materials and a direct connection to nature appeal to senior-level nurses and physicians who wish to extend their careers in an environment where they can pioneer the next generation of care.
