This project is registered with the certification goal of LEED Certified.
In this project, we have really focused on energy reduction, water conservation, and community livability.
Through HET water closets, and low flow and automatic fixtures, we have managed to save 41.85% of water than a standard office build out of this size.
Using all Energy Star rated appliances, and purchasing renewable energy from their provider, we have been able to make a huge impact on the amount of electricity this dental office uses.
The location of this space was also incredibly important to Dr. Koos, as he wanted patients to be able to access his office easily by public transportation, bike (only for consultation visits!), car, or on foot.
For this project, the architectural team worked closely with Dr. Steven Koos, DDS, MD to create the new Ora Oral Surgery & Implant Studio in Uptown. All involved were fully committed to beautiful, environmentally conscious, and smart design practices. The project is registered for LEED Certification was conceived as a cross between a surgery center and a modern art experience.
Health, comfort, and healing were top priorities for Dr. Koos. He wanted to ensure his patients were comfortable during every step of the process – from sitting in the waiting room with a dedicated beverage center and a fireplace, to watching ceiling integrated nature scenes while in the procedure chairs, to dimmable lighting and comfortable chairs in the recovery rooms.
Visually, the coolness of the re-polished existing concrete floors was offset by the warmth of raw wood slats, and the hard surfaces were offset by the abundant plant life throughout. Even the break room was thoughtfully designed to be an inviting, comfortable place where the staff could truly relax.
As an art-lover, Dr. Koos also prioritized art procurement and display. Lighted niches in the hallways display and protect large colorful, hand-blown glass vases. In every room of the office, Dr. Koos hand selected unique art perfectly suited to the space – a large glass wall piece inspired by a sunrise for the consultation room, blue serene abstracted landscapes in the exam rooms, and colorful and energetic pieces in the offices.
