Located in the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the building sits on 3 acres of property overlooking Lake Michigan.
The owner who is a writer and involved in the religious community wanted a home that, in addition to being a 2nd home sought a place to write, and a building that could be used as a religious retreat.
So the building began with a passage from the bible;
“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen then he said to them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
the intention was to embed this idea into this building through the symbols of the ouroboros and the Ichthys.
The ouroboros symbol- the serpent eating its own tail, is used to represent the ideas of; Eternal Unity, Rebirth Renewal.
The Ichthys symbol is used to represent the pursuit of spiritual growth.
The intertwined symbols provide a shell whose walls are opaque on the entry side, but transparent in meaning and on the lake (working) side the walls are transparent and the meaning is opaque.
